The Serra da Gardunha is an elevation of mainland Portugal, with a length of 20 km, 10 km wide and 1227 meters in altitude. It is located in Beira Baixa. County of Fundão, District of Castelo Branco. The Serra da Gardunha is also known as Guardunha (Arabic word meaning "refuge").

This area is the capital of cherry production in Portugal, and in the parishes of Alcongosta and Souto da Casa. Other parishes with high production of cherry: Vila de Joanes, Aldeia Nova do Cabo, Alcaide, Alpedrinha, Castelo Novo, Fundão.

In this mountain can see several species of animals and plants. For plants should highlight the éspecie endemic: Asphodelus bento-rainhae. It is an endemic plant species of the northern part of Sierra Gardunha, in the area between the Alcaide and Souto da casa.

This species is protected by the Association for Defence and Development of the Sierra Gardunha, with subsidies from the European Union for the project "Life / Nature."

The juice of the tuber of Asphodelus bento-rainhae is used to treat infections of their rarity pele.A amply justifies the protection that is targeted, despite being at risk of extinction due to surribas of the mountain, for the planting of fruit trees whose economic performance attracts the greed of small farmers (cherry).
