The EP has the fundamental mission of the administration roads in Portugal. It is an entity with an extensive route and the reference in the country, developed throughout history, present and future, of our roads and routes.
The human existence and the organisation of the territories, the occupation of space and management time were trilhados, length, through the organisation of roads, the problems of its construction, maintenance and the models and ways of managing the problems related to them.

Role of particular importance in understanding the administration and roads, occupied by the JAE - Autonomous Board of Roads, created in 1927, an institution which has become one of the most important of the twentieth century in Portugal.

The evolution of life of roads and bridges in the road network marked in a meaningful way the country, which has invested in roads vast financial, material and human resources.
